Coaches Bios
James Mangan
Founder of Saugatuck Rowing Club in 1991.
Head Coach for the Masters and Junior program for 13 years (12 coaches, 170 junior rowers).
Founder and Coach of OARS (Olympic Athletes Rowing at Saugatuck: a non profit organization providing support and coaching for aspiring Olympic and World Champions).
As a former Irish national team rower, James has worked for many years to promote competitive rowing in the US. He is responsible for the following national team, junior team and masters successes, among others:
- Head coach US U23 Mens Lwt sculling team 2007
- US U23 Mens Lwt 4x: silver medal Hazewinkel, Belgium 2006
- US NSR 2006: Women’s 1x: 3rd, Women’s 2x: 2nd
- Head of the Charles 2005: mens’s Championship 1x: 6th, Women’s championship 2x: 4th, Women’s club 4+: 7th
- Canadian Henley 2005: Women’s Champion 1x: silver
- US National Championships: Women’s elite 4x: Gold, Women’s elite 2x: Gold, Women’s elite 1x: Silver, and Women’s elite dash: Gold
- Head of the Charles 2004: Women’s champion 1x Gold, Men’s champion 1x 4th,
- Canadian Henley 2004: Womens championship 8+: Gold, Women’s championship 4+: Gold, Womens championship 2-: Gold
- Junior World Championships Men’s 1x
- Senior World Championships Womens HW 1x
- 2003 US National championships: Men’s elite 1x: Silver, Men’s elite 2x: Gold, Men’s senior 1x: Silver, Women’s elite 1x: Gold

Pat McInerney
Coaching career:
- Coached Sinead Jennings to take silver at the World Championships in Women’s Lwt 1x sculls in 2008.
- Coached St. Michaels club crews to win three national championships in 4+, 2x, 1x in 2009.
- Coached Sam Lynch who went on to row in the Irish Lightweight 4- at the Atlanta Olympics in ‘96 and became twice single sculls world champion.
- Coached the clubs first Mens Senior 8 National Champs title in 2007.
- Assistant coach with Irish Junior International team at European Coupe and World level in 2005/06/07.
- Started coaching in 1989 with club juniors.
- Won first National titles as a coach in 1993, Junior mens eight and four.
- Since then have coached dozens of National champions from Junior to Senior level. Many of these went on to become International rowers.
- Full time occupation is in Coach Education for Rowing Ireland on development and delivery of coaching courses.
Coaching qualifications:
- Level 3 Rowing Coach through Coaching Ireland/Rowing Ireland
- Coaching Ireland Level 2 Tutor.
- Have completed many Speed, Strength and Conditioning Workshops.
- National Certificate in Exercise & Fitness Instruction..
Rowing Career:
- Was a competitive club rower from 1976 to 1988 competing up to top senior levels in National competitions in Ireland and the UK.
- Lightweight International in 1984 and 1985 at World Championships.
